Amman Arab University Participates in an International Conference in Italy

Amman - Amman Arab University participated in the BESTMRDGRAPE International Conference in Italy, and Dr. Rana Abu Hawij, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, represented Amman Arab University with a research paper entitled “Promising anticancer activity against the triple-negative breast cancer of silver nanoparticles bio-fabricated from Jordanian grape pomace”

This conference included a large number of participants from various Arab and European countries in cooperation with scientists and researchers from the Italian University of Cagliari.

In her paper, Dr. Abu Hawij talked about the use of Ajlouni grape residues to produce low-cost and environmentally friendly nano-sized silver particles with unique physical and chemical properties, their effect as antioxidants, and their effect on triple-negative breast cancer cells (MDA-mb-231).

The results of the study in this research paper showed that the toxic effect of silver particles on the triple-negative breast cancer cell line is stronger than that of grape extract and close to the activity of the chemotherapy doxorubicin used in the treatment of breast cancer.  Silver nanoparticles, and may solve some of the major problems of traditional chemotherapy and an effective way to get rid of grape residues from the manufacture of juice, and may open new avenues in the field of nanomedicine for the treatment of more aggressive breast cancer.
