High School between Societal Anxiety and Prospective Development
By: Prof. Dr. Younes Megdadi, Amman Arab University.

Many of educators, academics, and opinion makers are still talking for years about the high school, known as the “Tawjihi”, which is the main concern of the community and their families, and which takes a great place in their thinking, which made this term undesirable to hear, not to mention its traditions drenched in anxiety and fear due to everyone’s keenness to provide the opportunity for success for their children as the first transitional station to another important stage, which is university education, to begin the real journey for the future of their children.

We can note as witness the preparations as an urgent emergency case in our homes for high school students (Tawjihi), which has formed a culture engulfed in suffering for our families, society and even educational institutions and others. The Tawjihi is a fateful case with all its beliefs and concepts drawn in everyone's mind and decades ago.

This stereotyped image of high school (Tawjihi) and entrenched in our societal culture, according to the studies, estimates and conclusions of the followers, which indicated that this image was not able to sort out what we aspire to while we are in the third millennium and its developments, especially in light of the race that we have been witnessing for years for the development of the secondary education system around the world. Which has been realized by many countries, regionally and globally, which hastened to develop the secondary education system to improve it compared to other countries in the world, and to remove societal anxiety and their children from the horror of our so-called high school or Tawjihi, by searching for scenarios to highlight the high school (Tawjihi) within formulations And achievement divisions for students, considering that high school is just a transitional station for the university, nothing more, nothing less, while the acceptance of successful Tawjihi students depends on the universities and their admission policies and conditions, in addition to their entrance exams. This is what many are looking forward to because it has many very important advantages, as is the case in the developed countries of the world, which believe that high school is only a transitional stage.

Staying with the symbolism of the Tawjihi in its current concept and formulations has occupied everyone’s mind, which many do not see as feasible in light of the great paradoxes with the countries of the developed world and others, most of which hastened to develop the secondary education system in record time to change the concepts, beliefs and established cultures with the aim of advancing education, which is the cornerstone in Building, civilizing and developing societies towards sustainable development, taking into account a number of development ideas to ensure a bright future for our children, society and educational institutions.

Many observers are looking forward to reconsidering the high school (al-Tawjihi), which requires a real will towards change and development within formulations that are in harmony with the developments and challenges of education, keeping pace with global trends and far from being committed to saying that we are better, in principle, to always be at the forefront and initiators to put forward new developmental ideas, and without We all doubt the competence of those in charge of the basic and secondary education sector and their emphatic keenness to adopt development ideas aimed at enhancing the position of education in light of the marked competition regionally and globally as a strategic option in harmony with the future visions of the education system.
