Students of the Renewable Energy Engineering Department at “Amman Arab University” (AU) Visit the Jordan Research and Training Reactor

In line with the vision and mission of Amman Arab University to strengthen practical and applied learning, and in implementation of the directives of Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Wedian, President of the University, and under the follow-up of Dr. Anwar Al-Assaf, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Engineering organized a scientific visit for students of the Renewable Energy Engineering Department to the Jordan Research and Training Reactor (JRTR). The visit was conducted in cooperation with the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), and under the supervision of Dr. Akram Mousa, Head of the Renewable Energy Engineering Department and Academic Supervisor of the AEE Student Chapter at Amman Arab University, and Dr. Ayman Agha, a faculty member at the Faculty of Engineering. The visit aimed to enhance students’ practical experience and introduce them to the peaceful applications of nuclear energy.

The students were received by Dr. Majd Al-Hawari, Director of the Jordan Research and Training Reactor, who emphasized the importance of investing in human resources and developing qualified Jordanian cadres in the nuclear field, given their essential role in advancing this vital sector and supporting scientific research in the Kingdom. During the visit, students were introduced to the concept of nuclear energy, the operating principles of the research reactor, and its role in supporting scientific research and university students’ projects. They also learned about the reactor’s facilities and the mechanisms for managing and treating radioactive waste in accordance with approved standards.

During the field tour, students visited the control room as the main center for monitoring and operating the research reactor, the reactor pool housing the reactor core, as well as the Neutron Activation Analysis facility and radiological analysis laboratories used for sample analysis and component identification. At the conclusion of the visit, Renewable Energy Engineering students expressed their appreciation for this purposeful scientific experience, which contributed to expanding their knowledge and enhancing their understanding of nuclear technologies and their various applications. They also commended the role of the reactor’s management and the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) in supporting education and scientific research in Jordan.
