International Research Cooperation Between Amman Arab University (AAU) and the Malaysian University (UKM)
In line with its commitment to the principle of "Leave No One Behind," Amman Arab University hosted a research delegation from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) for a joint project aimed at studying ways to support and empower Syrian refugees and address the living and educational challenges they face. The activities began with a field visit to Mafraq Governorate, where the research team conducted a focus group discussion at the Al-Asa'il Association for Empowerment and Cultural Training. The session, involving 30 young Syrian refugees, highlighted their aspirations for a promising academic and professional future and emphasized the need for enhanced economic support and specialized technical and vocational training programs.
The Malaysian delegation, led by Professor Zarina Othman, also toured the university's facilities and met with Prof. Dr. Husam Al-Hamad, Vice President for Planning and Quality Assurance, to explore prospects for academic cooperation and expertise exchange. The visiting team expressed great admiration for the awareness level shown by the participating youth and the outstanding organization by the host association and university. Both parties agreed that these findings will form the cornerstone for developing a research roadmap to address refugee issues through a scientific and practical approach, in alignment with the sustainable development goals.
