Faculty of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University (AAU) Participates in the Applied Health Sciences Conference (AHSC 2025) with High-Quality Scientific Research
As part of Amman Arab University’s commitment to strengthening its scientific and research presence at local and international forums, the Faculty of Pharmacy participated in the Applied Health Sciences Conference (AHSC 2025), held at the Mövenpick Hotel – Dead Sea, under the theme “Excellence and Partnership in Healthcare.” The conference was attended by a distinguished group of academics and researchers specializing in health and medical sciences.
The Faculty of Pharmacy was represented by Dr. Sara Nasereldin, Assistant Dean; Dr. Israa Al-Malkawi, Head of the Department of Pharmacy; and Dr. Nusaiba Al-Qutaish, Dr. Hala Al-Habashneh, and Dr. Zikrayat Mirdas, faculty members at the College. They presented high-quality research contributions that reflected the advanced level achieved by Amman Arab University in scientific research and applied health sciences.
Dr. Israa Al-Malkawi, Assistant Professor of Medicinal Chemistry, presented a research paper entitled “Novltex: A New Class of Antibiotics with Potent Activity against Multidrug-Resistant Bacterial Pathogens.” Her presentation addressed the synthesis of a novel antibiotic characterized by high efficacy against bacteria resistant to conventional antibiotics—one of the most critical global health challenges. The paper presented preliminary results demonstrating the compound’s remarkable ability to inhibit the growth of bacterial strains that have failed to respond to existing treatments, making it a promising candidate for the development of safer and more effective medications. Notably, the research has been granted a patent in recognition of its uniqueness and falls within the category of novel antibiotics, further strengthening the University’s role in supporting pioneering research and innovation.
Dr. Sara Nasereldin, Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology, presented a research paper entitled “An Ex Vivo Study of the Human Nail Barrier: Emerging Research Perspectives for the Development of Innovative Antifungal Drugs.” Her study emphasized the importance of understanding human biological barriers in designing effective drug delivery systems, with a particular focus on the physiology and structure of the human nail. She noted that fungal nail infections affect approximately six million people worldwide, despite the lack of effective treatments to date, highlighting the significance of this research in developing innovative therapeutic solutions.
In turn, Dr. Nusaiba Al-Qutaish, Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology, presented a research paper addressing the stages of developing targeted nano-carriers based on PLGA polymer to improve the delivery of anticancer drugs for the treatment of thyroid cancer. The study demonstrated the role of these carriers in enhancing selective targeting of cancer cells, increasing drug concentration at the tumor site, reducing impact on healthy tissues, and consequently improving therapeutic efficacy while minimizing side effects.
In the field of pharmacology, Dr. Hala Al-Habashneh, Assistant Professor of Pharmacology, presented a research paper entitled “A Role for Endothelial PKGIα in Pulmonary Artery,” in which she discussed her research findings on the role of vasodilation mechanisms and their relationship to pulmonary arterial hypertension.
This participation reaffirms Amman Arab University’s vision of supporting applied scientific research, enhancing its academic and research presence at both local and international levels, and consolidating its position as a leading educational institution that actively contributes to the advancement of the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors through research and innovation.
