The Faculty of Engineering at Amman Arab University (AAU) Hosts Professor Salim Dahabra for a Scientific Lecture Titled: “Conceptual Thinking in Architecture”

As part of Amman Arab University’s ongoing efforts to advance the quality of engineering education and foster creative thinking among its students, and in line with the directives of the University President, Professor Mohammad Al-Widyan, and the follow-up of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Anwar Al-Assaf, the Department of Architecture organized a distinguished scientific meeting. The event hosted Professor Salim Dahabra from the University of Jordan, who delivered a lecture titled “Conceptual Thinking in Architecture” to architecture students from various academic levels. The lecture was coordinated by Dr. Reham Al-Asmar, Head of the Department of Architecture at Amman Arab University.

The lecture addressed several key themes, most notably the concept of conceptual thinking in architecture as a fundamental pillar in the design process. Professor Dahabra explored methodologies for generating and developing architectural ideas, starting from the initial moment of inspiration, through stages of analysis and refinement, and ultimately translating these ideas into integrated design solutions that balance creativity, functionality, and feasibility. He also emphasized the importance of achieving harmony between the design concept and both the cultural and environmental contexts of a project, noting that the distinction of architectural work lies in the clarity and expressive strength of its underlying idea, as well as its ability to respond effectively to user needs and site-specific requirements.

The lecture witnessed notable engagement from students, whose questions and discussions reflected an advanced interest in developing creative thinking skills and overcoming challenges encountered in their academic projects. The session also included presentations of selected architectural models and projects, which helped clarify the discussed concepts and enhance students’ understanding of conceptual thinking and its practical applications in architectural practice.

At the conclusion of the event, Dr. Al-Asmar expressed her sincere appreciation to Professor Dahabra for his valuable and enriching scientific contribution. She affirmed that the lecture represented a significant addition that broadened students’ perspectives and strengthened their intellectual and design capabilities. She also highlighted the Department of Architecture’s commitment to continuously hosting distinguished academics and experts, contributing to the development of educational outcomes and reinforcing the integration of theoretical and practical aspects in line with the rapid advancements in the field of architecture and the evolving demands of the labor market.

Such events reflect Amman Arab University’s strategic approach to supporting academic excellence by providing a stimulating educational environment that promotes creativity and innovation, and by fostering openness to specialized scientific expertise. This, in turn, contributes to preparing qualified graduates equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to compete both locally and regionally.
