Amman Arab University (AAU) Holds Specialized Workshop titled "Using Bioinformatics Tools in Drug Discovery"
As part of the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences at Amman Arab University's commitment to enhancing communication channels with its students in the Bioinformatics program, the Faculty organized a specialized workshop titled "Using Bioinformatics Tools in Drug Discovery." The workshop was presented by Ms. Haneen Al-Jamel, a specialist in Genomic Sciences, and was attended by Dr. Bilal Al-Shoumali, Head of the Medical Sciences Department, along with a number of faculty members from the Faculties of Pharmacy and Applied Medical Sciences, and students.
The workshop aimed to introduce students to the practical applications of bioinformatics in the field of drug development and to highlight the vital role these technologies play in analyzing biological data and linking it to modern therapeutic uses. It also provided students with an opportunity for direct interaction with the expert, asking questions about the prospects and future of this promising science in the job market and scientific research, thereby enhancing their knowledge and developing their skills in the fields of innovation and applied research.
The workshop covered the latest methods and software used in drug discovery and design, shedding light on the most important websites that contribute to accelerating drug discovery processes using genomic data. During the workshop, Ms. Al-Jamel emphasized that bioinformatics represents a strategic tool supporting scientists' efforts to design more effective and less expensive drugs, noting that proficiency in these tools has become one of the essential skills required for graduates of modern medical sciences.
This workshop falls within the vision of the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences at Amman Arab University to integrate theoretical aspects with practical applications and to empower students to acquire the technical expertise that qualifies them to compete in the fields of scientific research and medical innovation.
