Amman Arab University (AAU) Pharmacy Students Deliver Awareness Workshop on Obesity and Healthy Nutrition at Bariq Al-Majd Academy
In line with Amman Arab University’s commitment to community engagement and promoting health awareness, and as part of its ongoing efforts to support younger students, the Faculty of Pharmacy organized an awareness workshop at Bariq Al-Majd Academy. The workshop, titled “Obesity: Risks, Prevention, and Healthy Nutrition,” targeted male students in grades seven and eight, aiming to enhance their understanding of healthy lifestyles and preventive approaches to obesity.
The university was represented by Dr. Majdoleen Alalawneh, a faculty member at the Faculty of Pharmacy, alongside active participation from pharmacy students: Rasha Sultan, Firas Abu Abed, and Saba Al-Dairi. The team delivered scientifically grounded yet age-appropriate content using an interactive approach that combined knowledge with practical engagement, helping to reinforce health concepts and encourage positive behaviors among students.
The workshop focused on building early awareness of healthy living, emphasizing the importance of obesity prevention as one of today’s major public health challenges. It covered key topics including the definition of obesity, its causes—particularly unhealthy dietary habits and physical inactivity—and its complications, such as increased risk of chronic diseases including cardiovascular conditions and diabetes. The session also highlighted the importance of adopting healthy daily habits, such as balanced nutrition, reducing fast food consumption, maintaining proper sleep patterns, and engaging in regular physical activity.
The event was marked by strong student engagement through interactive activities and educational competitions, which helped simplify complex health concepts and made the learning experience both practical and enjoyable.
In this context, Prof. Dr. Rana Abu Huwaij, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University, emphasized the faculty’s commitment to continuing impactful community outreach initiatives, particularly those targeting school students. She highlighted that health awareness is fundamental to building a well-informed generation capable of adopting healthy behaviors and making positive life choices.
At the conclusion of the visit, the administration of Bariq Al-Majd Academy expressed their appreciation to Amman Arab University and its Faculty of Pharmacy for this valuable initiative, commending the team’s efforts in delivering meaningful and engaging health education.
