The First Anti-Smoking Awareness Day at Amman Arab University

Under the patronage of Professor. Mohamad Al-Widyan, President of Amman Arab University, College of Pharmacy at the University organized the activities of the first anti-smoking awareness day, which carried the slogan “Towards a smoke-free university”, in the presence of Professor. Ismail Yamin, Assistant to the President for Academic Affairs, deans, academic and administrative staff, and students.

On the other hand, Professor. Rana Abu Haweij, Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Head of the Supreme Anti-Smoking Committee at Amman Arab University, welcomed the attendees, where she explained the University’s pioneering role in confronting the phenomenon of smoking that affects our society and our world, and stressed the implementation of strict instructions towards smokers, and the prohibition of buying, selling, and promoting Tobacco in all its forms on campus, and even the leadership culminated in establishing a smoking cessation clinic within the building of the College of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University, to be the third clinic of its kind in Jordanian private universities to provide psychological, social, and health support for those wishing to quit smoking, taking into account the economic, health, and social aspects. Religious and moral.

The event included several participants, where Dr. Suzan Abdel Malik, Vice President of the Jordanian University Association for Tobacco Control, spoke about the dangers of smoking, especially electronic cigarettes, while pharmacist Dima Jarad, Head of the Department of Prevention of the Harms of Smoking in the Directorate of Health Awareness and Information at the Ministry of Health, spoke about the role of smoking in Jordan and the efforts of the Ministry of Health in combating it, while Professor Rawan Shehab, Head of the Awareness Department at the King Hussein Cancer Center, highlighted the role of Jordanian universities in this field, while student Thumama Marzouq spoke about his success story in quitting smoking and the role of the Smoking Cessation Clinic team at Amman Arab University World helps him quit smoking.

At the end of the event, awareness posters designed by Jordanian university students were displayed as a contribution from the Jordanian University Association for Tobacco Control, in addition to honoring the participants with shields of appreciation.
