reen Walls and Health through Parametric Design: A Specialized Lecture for Architecture Students at Amman Arab University (AAU)

In line with the College of Engineering’s commitment at Amman Arab University to integrating theoretical knowledge with practical and applied learning, enhancing applied knowledge among Architecture Engineering students, and developing their skills in the field of sustainable design—and in implementation of the directives of the University President, Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Wedian, with continuous follow-up by Dr. Anwar Al-Assaf, Dean of the College of Engineering—the Department of Architecture Engineering organized a specialized lecture entitled “Green Walls and Health through Parametric Design.” The lecture was delivered by Dr. Rawan Jaafar from the University of the West of England (UWE), aiming to strengthen students’ applied knowledge and enhance their skills in sustainable architectural design.

During the lecture, Dr. Jaafar provided a comprehensive overview of the latest research trends in Computational Design and parametric modeling techniques, highlighting their role in improving the quality of the built environment and promoting health and well-being within architectural spaces. She also addressed the concept of green walls from both scientific and practical perspectives, explaining their impact on improving indoor air quality, enhancing thermal comfort, and supporting the psychological and physical well-being of building occupants.

The lecture featured interactive discussions between the speaker and students, enriched by real-world examples and advanced research models that helped broaden students’ understanding of how digital tools can be effectively employed to support sustainability. These discussions also contributed to linking academic knowledge with contemporary design solutions and reinforcing concepts covered in design and built environment courses through the introduction of innovative ideas directly connected to modern architectural practices.

At the conclusion of the lecture, Dr. Al-Assaf expressed his appreciation to Dr. Rawan Jaafar for her valuable participation and insightful presentation, which constituted a qualitative addition to the academic environment and significantly enriched the students’ educational experience. He further emphasized that the College of Engineering at Amman Arab University remains committed to hosting experts and researchers in support of its mission to enhance the quality of education and scientific research, and to further establish Amman Arab University’s position as a leading institution in the fields of engineering and architecture.
