
Information Technology at Amman Arab University (AAU) Presents Pioneering Project to Enhance Arabic Calligraphy with Artificial Intelligence
In an innovative step that brings together linguistic heritage and modern technologies, the Faculty of Information Technology at Amman Arab University presented an innovative project aimed at employing artificial intelligence to enhance Arabic calligraphy writing. In this context, a meeting was held on Thursday, 4/12/2025, at the Arabic Language Academy, part of which was attended by Professor Dr. Mohammad Adnan Al-Bakhit, President of the Academy, in the presence of Mr. Maamoun Hattab, a member of the Academy, Dr. Nassar Mansour, along with the Directors of the Planning and Media Directorates.
Amman Arab University was represented at the meeting by a team from the Faculty of Information Technology, headed by Dr. Belal Khater, a faculty member. The team presented their pioneering project, which aims to utilize artificial intelligence techniques to enhance Arabic calligraphy. This project is one of the distinguished initiatives of the Faculty of Information Technology, supervised by Dr. Bilal Khater and Dr. Walaa Al-Omari, with the participation of students Ahmed Rashid and Sundus Al-Kilani from the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and student Huda Yassin from the Department of Software Engineering.
The project aims to develop smart tools and applications capable of improving the quality of Arabic calligraphy and enhancing its use in educational, technical, and artistic fields. This reflects Amman Arab University's commitment to innovation and supporting research projects that blend linguistic heritage with modern technologies. The team explained that the project is developing an innovative digital application that provides an educational and entertaining environment, offering a unique and personalized user experience. It aims to preserve and master various Arabic calligraphy styles and enhance writing techniques, utilizing artificial intelligence to provide smart educational tools that help users improve their skills interactively and accurately.
In this regard, Dr. Rami Sahwil, Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology at Amman Arab University, emphasized the importance of active participation from faculty members and students in implementing practical, applied projects targeting the local community. He noted that these projects represent a genuine contribution that helps develop students' practical skills and strengthens the connection between academic education and community life.
This participation comes as a confirmation of Amman Arab University’s keenness to serve the local community by supporting entrepreneurial projects and promoting innovation among its students, and consolidating its vision based on integrating cultural heritage with the latest modern technologies, while ensuring the effective involvement of students to develop their practical experiences and link theoretical education with practical application.
