
Amman Arab University Organizes "Art Therapy" Workshop to Raise Awareness of Proper Emotional Release Techniques
The Deanship of Student Affairs/Student Counseling Department, in collaboration with the Faculty of Educational and Psychological Sciences/Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling at Amman Arab University, organized a training workshop titled "Art Therapy." The workshop was presented by Dr. Rand Arabiyat, Head of the Psychology and Counseling Department, and student Aseel Saleh from the Faculty of Educational and Psychological Sciences. Attendees included Prof. Dr. Ismail Yamin, Assistant President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Wafa Al-Eid, Dean of the Faculty of Educational and Psychological Sciences, and Dr. Mohammed Bin Tarif, Dean of Student Affairs.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness about mental health, specifically art therapy, by educating participants on proper emotional release techniques. It focused on teaching deep breathing strategies and therapeutic drawing techniques to enhance mental well-being, self-awareness, and the identification of personal strengths, weaknesses, and factors affecting mental health.
Dr. Bin Tarif, Dean of Student Affairs, opened the workshop by welcoming attendees and emphasizing that such collaborations enhance student awareness, positively impacting the university environment and society. He highlighted its significant role in behavior modification and improving the ability to cope with various pressures effectively. Dr. Al-Eid stressed the importance of such workshops in promoting students' mental health, noting that a psychologically supportive educational environment greatly enhances students' ability to handle academic and social challenges.
Dr. Arabiyat began the workshop with a scientific explanation of art therapy, emphasizing its importance amid increasing psychological pressures. She reviewed the theoretical and scientific foundations of this therapeutic approach and demonstrated its effectiveness in supporting mental health. The session concluded with a practical activity simulating a therapeutic session, allowing students to experience art-based therapeutic techniques.
Student Aseel Saleh delivered an outstanding training intervention, simplifying the concept of art therapy and leading interactive exercises that engaged participants and demonstrated how art can be used for emotional expression and release.
At the end of the workshop, participants expressed great appreciation for the topics covered and emphasized the importance of continuing such initiatives to improve mental well-being and develop coping skills. Dr. Bin Tarif and Ms. Shatha Al Rabie, Head of the Student Counseling Department, honored the trainers in recognition of their efforts, and certificates were distributed to participating students in appreciation of their active engagement.
