Amman Arab University (AAU) Participates in a National Seminar on Drugs to Strengthen Institutional Integration and Protect Families and Society
Amman Arab University participated in a national seminar on drugs organized by the National Center for Human Rights, titled: “Drugs and Their Impact on the Family and Society in Jordan: From Legal and Social Diagnosis to Institutional Integration and National Recommendations.” The seminar brought together representatives from the Public Security Directorate, the Ministry of Interior, the Senate, and the Jordan Customs Department, along with a distinguished group of representatives from civil society organizations and academic institutions.
The university was represented by Dr. Celine Abughoush, a pharmacist and member of the university’s Higher Committee for Tobacco Control. The seminar aimed to highlight the current situation of drug proliferation in Jordan and to explore ways to enhance institutional integration among relevant entities, with the goal of producing actionable national recommendations to reduce the impact of this issue on families and society.
The seminar featured in-depth discussions addressing the legal and social dimensions of drug spread, as well as the crucial role played by health, social, and security institutions in prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. Participants emphasized the importance of adopting a comprehensive national approach based on partnership and institutional coordination—one that goes beyond traditional enforcement methods toward an integrated system focused on early prevention, effective treatment, and social reintegration.
At the conclusion of the seminar, participants stressed the need to strengthen cooperation frameworks between official institutions and universities, and to enhance the role of academic and research institutions in supporting national efforts and shaping policies related to combating drugs. This, they noted, would contribute to protecting families and society and improving the effectiveness of the national response to these growing societal challenges.
