Amman Arab University is a Member of the United Nations Global Compact

In a qualitative step within Amman Arab University’s vision of adopting the concepts of social responsibility and sustainable development as part of its identity, the University obtained membership in the United Nations Global Compact, which was announced before the World Economic Forum on January 31, 1999 and was officially launched at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City on July 26. 2000. The United Nations Global Compact is the largest institutional sustainability initiative in the world in more than 170 countries. It aims to:
Disseminating ten specialized principles in four main areas: (human rights, labor, environment, anti-corruption) in business activities around the world, and stimulating actions to support global sustainable development objectives. To activate this membership, a memorandum of understanding will be signed between Amman Arab University and the United Nations Global Compact in Amman, resulting in a plan of joint activities and events targeting University workers, students, and the local community.

It is noteworthy that Amman Arab University works to consolidate the practices of social responsibility and sustainable development from both a theoretical and practical perspective. It has a social responsibility fund dedicated to educational initiatives and community programs, and cooperates with many official local, civil and international bodies. The University is also the exclusive representative of the regional network for social responsibility in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordanian.

Amman Arab University also won the Arab Council Award for Social Responsibility in Cairo for the year 2021. It is also the headquarters of the Arab Council for Sustainable Development, emanating from the Association of Arab Universities, and last month concluded a scientific conference entitled “The Role of Arab Universities as Incubators for Sustainable Development: Reality and Aspirations.”
