Amman Arab University Pharmacy Workshop on Regulatory Affairs for Drug Registration in the Job Market
As part of the College of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University's efforts to enhance its students' research and professional skills, the college organized a training workshop titled "Prospects for Pharmacists in the Job Market and Regulatory Affairs for Drug Registration." The event was held in collaboration with the Career Guidance and Alumni Follow-up Office at the Deanship of Student Affairs and witnessed notable attendance from faculty members, administrative staff, graduates, and students from the Master’s program in Pharmacovigilance and Regulatory Affairs as well as undergraduate pharmacy students nearing graduation.
The workshop was led by Dr. Israa Al-Zoubi, a pharmaceutical consultant to the Director-General for Drug Affairs at the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) and an expert with over 20 years of experience in pharmaceutical practice and regulatory affairs. During the session, Dr. Al-Zoubi discussed the professional opportunities available for pharmacists in the Jordanian job market, highlighting key challenges that new graduates might face. She also emphasized the vital role of the JFDA in regulating drug registration processes and ensuring the safety and efficacy of medications, providing a detailed overview of the procedures required for safe and effective drug registration in the local market.
A significant focus of the workshop was on the Common Technical Document (CTD) and its electronic system (eCTD), which are essential tools for streamlining drug registration procedures. The CTD was introduced as a globally recognized regulatory framework for submitting registration applications to regulatory authorities, consisting of multiple sections covering administrative, manufacturing quality, non-clinical, and clinical studies to ensure a comprehensive and integrated drug dossier. Additionally, the eCTD system—the digital version of the CTD—was presented as a platform for electronic submission and updates, enhancing the efficiency and transparency of evaluation and review processes. Dr. Al-Zoubi delivered this information in a clear and simplified manner, helping students and graduates better understand the requirements for introducing drugs to the market in compliance with global regulatory standards that ensure safety and efficacy.
Dr. Al-Zoubi also praised the unique Master’s program in Pharmacovigilance and Regulatory Affairs offered by Amman Arab University, noting that students are fortunate to enroll in a program that provides advanced knowledge in drug safety and regulatory compliance. She emphasized that the program opens wide career prospects for graduates in the job market, enhancing their professional opportunities and contributing to the development of Jordan’s pharmaceutical sector.
At the conclusion of the workshop, Professor Dr. Rana Abu Huwaij, Dean of the College of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University, expressed her deep gratitude to Dr. Israa Al-Zoubi for her outstanding efforts in delivering rich and valuable content to students and graduates. She reiterated the college’s commitment to organizing specialized workshops aimed at enhancing students' skills and preparing them for the job market with high competence.
Students expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge about pharmaceutical regulatory affairs, affirming that such events provide them with a clear vision for their future career paths and enhance their readiness to actively contribute to the advancement of Jordan’s pharmaceutical sector.
