The First Master’s Thesis in Applied Linguistics at Amman Arab University
Under the patronage of the President of Amman Arab University, Professor. Mohamad Al-Widyan, and the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University, Dr. Wafa Al-Eid, the first master’s thesis was discussed in the field of “Applied Linguistics” in the College of Arts and Sciences at Amman Arab University, by the student Rasha Ramzi Abu Doush, entitled as:
“Cross-Linguistic Interference in the Syntactic and Semantic Acquisition of Arabic Language”
The discussion committee was formed of Dr. Yazan Al-Mahamid as supervisor and chairman, Dr. Nisreen Al-Khawaldeh externally from the Hashemite University, and internally Dr. Ahmed Tawalbeh.
The thesis was discussed in the presence of: the President of the University, Professor. Mohamad Al-Widyan, the Assistant to the President of Academic Affairs, the Dean of Scientific Research, Professor. Ismail Yamin, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Wafa Al-Eid, the Dean of the College of Business, Professor. Hassan Al-Zoubi, the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor. Khaled Bani Hamdan, and the Deputy Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Youssef Al-Qudah, a number of faculty members at the college, and the student’s family. After listening to the student’s proposal and discussing it, the committee praised her thesis and her efforts in preparing and presenting it, and declared it successful, with some minor modifications.
It is noteworthy that, as part of Amman Arab University’s efforts to expand the offering of distinguished programs, a master’s program was recently created in the field of applied linguistics, which is a qualitative major that meets the needs of the labor market and represents one of the majors that is witnessing demand. Applied Linguistics program is also considered a qualitative addition to the specializations of Amman Arab University.
It is considered one of the modern majors and is the first of its kind at the master’s level in central universities.
