College of Arts and Sciences at Amman Arab University Holds a Workshop in “Creative and Critical Thinking Skills”
College of Arts and Sciences/Department of Basic Humanities and Scientific Sciences at Amman Arab University held a training workshop entitled “Creative and Critical Thinking Skills” with the aim of providing students with the knowledge and skills necessary for the process of creative and critical thinking and how to employ those skills in academic and life aspects. The implementation of this workshop is regarded as one of the initiatives that the college is implementing for its students on an ongoing basis in accordance with its vision based on the importance of extracurricular activities in building the personality of students and the necessity of moving the learning process from indoctrination and traditional to participatory and interactive between the teacher and the student, which contributes to consolidating knowledge and providing students with practical skills that In turn, it is reflected in the development of the student’s personal, life and practical aspects.
The training workshop was part of the activities of the National Education, Life Skills, and Community Responsibility courses, with the participation of 30 male and female students representing those courses. It addressed many topics, the most prominent of which are:
- The concept of thinking, critical thinking, creative thinking
- Differences between types of thinking
- Steps of critical and creative thinking
- Standards of critical and creative thinking
- Characteristics of creative and critical thinking and characteristics of a critical thinker
- How to employ creative and critical thinking in solving problems
These training topics were implemented and presented by following a participatory methodology based on a variety of training methods, the most prominent of which are brainstorming, work groups, role-playing, dialogue and presentation. The workshop was distinguished by the quality of interaction by the participants who represented university students of various Arab and African nationalities, which created a kind of interaction. Cognitive, cultural and training blending among the participants.
It is noteworthy that the workshop was implemented by the trainer, Dr. Ahmed Al-Jaribi, with the participation of Dr. Mutib Al-Otaibi from the College of Arts and Sciences in the Department of Basic Humanities and Scientific Sciences at Amman Arab University, and under the supervision and guidance of the Dean of the College, Dr. Wafa Al-Eid, the Deputy Dean, Dr. Youssef Al-Qudah, and the head of the Department of Basic Sciences, Dr. Muhammad Al-Aroud.
