Educational and Psychological Sciences at Amman Arab University Participates in the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in “North City”
College of Educational and Psychological Sciences at Amman Arab University participated in the activities of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which was held at North City Academy, entitled “Inclusive Education...a Fundamental Right for Persons with Disabilities,” under the patronage of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Minister of Education, His Excellency Professor. Azmi. Mahaftha.
The celebration and the scientific forum that was held on the sidelines of the celebration were attended by the Dean of the College of Educational and Psychological Sciences, Dr. Wafa Al-Eid, the Head of the Special Education Department, Dr. Nabil Humaidan, Dr. Rand Arabiyat, and Dr. Radwan Abu Saif, faculty members at the college.
During the forum, a faculty member from the Department of Psychological and Educational Counseling, Dr. Rand Arabiyat, presented a paper ,dealt with “Guiding the families of students without disabilities to accept students with disabilities with their children.” A set of activities and guidelines were proposed that contribute to accepting students without disabilities with disabilited people, such as holding joint social events, awareness sessions, and communicating with families of people with disabilities. Dr. Arabiyat also explained the role played by the school counselor in achieving social and psychological support for students with disabilities and their families, and students without disabilities and their families.
Faculty member from the Department of Special Education, Dr. Radwan Abu Saif, presented a research paper on the rights, legislation and international agreements for people with disabilities between theory and practice in light of the present violations of these rights by the Zionist entity against them in Palestine in general and in Gaza in particular.
It is noteworthy that Amman Arab University’s participation in such events copes with its belief in its societal responsibility and the importance of networking with local community institutions, and as a way to open new horizons for people with disabilities to participate in the workforce and society
It is worth noting that the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, implemented on December 3rd of each year, is a global day designated by the United Nations since 1992 to support people with disabilities. It aims to increase understanding of disability issues and support designs that are friendly to all in order to guarantee the rights of people with disabilities. This day calls for increasing awareness in the inclusion of people with disabilities in political, economic and cultural life.
