Faculty of Aviation Sciences at Amman Arab University (AAU) concludes specialised seminar on EASA examinations and mechanisms for developing students’ written performance
As part of Amman Arab University’s commitment to enhancing the quality of its educational outcomes and strengthening students’ readiness for international examinations, and under the directives of Professor Mohammad Al-Widyan, President of the University, and with the support of Professor Malik Al-Salem, Dean of the Faculty of Aviation Sciences, the Faculty organised a specialised seminar on “Mechanisms of EASA Examinations”. The seminar was delivered by Engineer Mustafa Ghoneim from Mid-East Aviation Academy, in the presence of Dr Ahmad Alhosban, Acting Head of the Aircraft Maintenance Department, a number of faculty members, and students from various specialisations in the Faculty.
The seminar addressed several main themes, most notably the EASA essay-type examinations. Engineer Ghoneim presented the nature of this type of examination, the mechanisms used to assess answers, and the most common mistakes made by students. He also reviewed the criteria adopted by EASA for marking essay questions and their direct impact on students’ results and pass rates. In addition, he highlighted the importance of developing students’ English writing skills in the Faculty of Aviation Sciences, stressing that mastery of technical and academic writing is a key factor for success in the essay components of EASA examinations, whether in theoretical or practical modules. This proficiency enables students to express technical concepts and operational procedures accurately and clearly, using internationally recognised terminology.
He further emphasised the importance of integration among the different academic courses in developing students’ English writing skills, through increased written exercises and by encouraging students to adopt an analytical and systematic style in their answers, in a way that contributes to improving their academic level and raising their readiness to sit EASA examinations with greater competence and confidence.
The seminar witnessed notable interaction from the students, who raised many questions and enquiries regarding methods of preparation for EASA essay examinations, the best approaches to develop technical writing skills, and ways to make effective use of university courses to build a solid linguistic foundation that qualifies them to succeed in international examinations. Engineer Ghoneim responded to these questions drawing on his academic and practical experience, and presented a set of guidelines and recommendations designed to support students in their academic and professional journey.
This seminar forms part of a series of activities and events organised by the Faculty of Aviation Sciences at Amman Arab University, aimed at developing students’ academic skills and aligning learning outcomes with the requirements of international bodies and the needs of the labour market in the aviation sector at the local, regional, and international levels.
