The College of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University (AAU) Enhances Practical Assessment of Pharmacy Students through the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)

Within the framework of the College of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University’s commitment to delivering distinguished pharmaceutical education, the College Training Committee organized the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) as part of the practical assessment plan for the first semester of the academic year 2025/2026. The OSCE is considered a key tool for evaluating students’ performance in experiential training courses. It was designed in accordance with the latest international standards to ensure a comprehensive and accurate assessment of students’ competencies. The examination included a variety of practical stations through which students’ skills in clinical assessment, medication counseling, and clinical problem-solving, and effective patient communication were evaluated.

Student assessment was conducted by College members and Dr. Ahmad Al-Rassasi and Dr. Nidal Al-Muhtasib, members of the College of Pharmacy Council, who participated as external evaluators from the professional pharmacy field. Their contribution to assessing students’ clinical performance was based on approved academic principles and criteria, thereby enhancing the objectivity and quality of the evaluation. The examination was conducted in a well-organized academic environment with the participation of College members and experiential training supervisors. Students demonstrated a good level of readiness and competence in managing the presented clinical cases, reflecting the quality of academic and practical preparation that the College is keen to provide.

In this context, Professor Dr. Rana Abu Hwaij, Dean of the College of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University, affirmed the College’s continuous commitment to developing the educational and training process and its interest in implementing modern assessment methods that contribute to raising students’ standards and enhancing their clinical competencies. She highlighted the importance of the OSCE as one of the fundamental pillars in evaluating experiential training outcomes, given its pivotal role in strengthening students’ practical skills and linking theoretical knowledge with clinical application, in line with contemporary pharmaceutical education standards.

This step comes as part of the ongoing efforts exerted by the college of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University to advance the level of pharmaceutical education and clinical training, and to prepare qualified pharmacy professionals who meet labor market requirements and keep pace with professional developments and American accreditation frameworks.
