Amman Arab University's (AAU) IEEE Branch Achieves Qualitative Success at the JSYP10 Congress

As part of Amman Arab University's efforts to promote youth innovation and empower students to develop their creative skills and adopt entrepreneurial ideas, the University's IEEE branch participated in the JSYP10 (Jordan Students & Young Professionals Congress). The congress was held in Amman, Jordan, organized by the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) in cooperation with the IEEE-AAU, with participation from over 400 students and experts representing 14 Jordanian universities, alongside a significant presence of industry, technology, and innovation experts.

This congress is the largest youth scientific platform of the IEEE organization in Jordan, allowing students to immerse themselves in a rich knowledge environment, exchange knowledge and experiences, and build local and global professional networks. The congress included numerous workshops and specialized discussion sessions in various fields, most notably the Internet of Things (IoT), innovation, and entrepreneurship.

In the hackathon competitions, 47 teams from 14 Jordanian universities participated. The IEEE branch at Amman Arab University had a notable presence with 16 teams in the first stage, of which 3 teams qualified for the second stage, and two teams reached the finals out of a total of 6 finalist teams.

In this regard, Professor Dr. Mohamed Al-Widyan, President of Amman Arab University, emphasized the importance of student participation in such qualitative events due to their direct impact on developing practical skills, enhancing the quality of university education, and linking academic knowledge to real-world applications. He praised the efforts of the IEEE branch in enabling students to interact with innovation and technology environments.

Team (LEYO) from the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence department in the Faculty of Information Technology at Amman Arab University, comprising student Youssef Yaseen and student Leen Noufal, secured first place in the hackathon competition for their innovative project “Wayn Asaf” (Where to Park). The project offers an intelligent solution to the parking problem in Jordan using Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, reflecting the branch members' ability to employ technology in addressing real-world challenges. This achievement came after intense competition among dozens of teams from various Jordanian universities.

In another achievement, student Ibrahim Shreiteh from the same faculty won the title of Best Ambassador of the congress. This accomplishment reflects the pioneering role of Amman Arab University in empowering youth and supporting their active participation in scientific forums.

At the conclusion of the congress, the winning teams were honored by Dr. Musa Al-Akhras, Chair of the IEEE Jordan Section, who expressed his pride in the outstanding level demonstrated by the students of Amman Arab University. He commended their efforts in developing technical projects that reflect a spirit of entrepreneurship and academic excellence, stressing the importance of such events in building a leadership generation capable of competing locally and internationally, and enhancing Jordan's standing in the fields of Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things.

It is worth noting that the supervisors of the participating teams from Amman Arab University in the final stages were: Dr. Lial Al-Zabin, Chair of the IEEE branch at Amman Arab University and faculty member in the Faculty of Information Technology, and Engineer Ya'qoub Al-Qarain from the Technical Support and Digital Manufacturing Division at the Center for Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Excellence. They were keen to provide technical and moral support to the teams, holding guidance meetings with them. They also attended the congress events to encourage the students and boost their competitive spirit.

On this occasion, Dr. Al-Zabin emphasized the importance of student participation in various competitions and scientific activities, due to their pivotal role in developing their technical and leadership skills and broadening their professional horizons, which positively reflects on their readiness for the job market and future leadership.

The IEEE branch at Amman Arab University extends its thanks to Dr. Samer Ayasrah, Director of the Center for Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Excellence, and Engineer Ya'qoub Al-Qarain from the Center for their continuous support of the students and their entrepreneurial projects. It also thanks Dr. Mohammad Bin Tarif, Dean of Student Affairs, for his ongoing support for all IEEE branch activities within the University, which has contributed to enhancing student participation in scientific and professional events.

It is noted that Amman Arab University affirms that this participation falls within its ongoing commitment to nurturing creativity and innovation, and empowering its students to undertake scientific and professional experiences that qualify them to be future pioneers and contributors to the development of their society.
