Department of Renewable Energy at “Amman Arab University” Undertakes a Scientific Trip to the Samra Electricity Generating Company

In order to consolidate the reduction of the gap between academia and industry and to support the slogan of Amman Arab University in leadership and excellence and to implement the visions of the President of the University, Professor. Mohamad Al-Widyan, and after coordination with His Excellency Dr. Sufyan Al-Batayneh, General Manager of Al-Samra Electricity Generation Company, a delegation of students from the Department of Renewable Energy at Amman Arab University accompanied them A number of faculty members in the department made a scientific visit to the Al-Samra Electric Power Generation Company station in Al-Hashimiyeh, located approximately 35 km northeast of the capital, Amman. Upon its arrival at the station, the delegation was received by the station’s engineers, and the engineers provided a detailed explanation of the stages of its construction and operation.

This visit aims to reduce the gap between the scientific information that students have acquired during their studies and the practical application of this information, as this station is currently considered the largest electric power generation station and operates on the combined cycle principle with a nominal capacity of 1241 megawatts.

The delegation continued its trip by visiting the Blue Solar Complex of the Samra Electricity Generating Company, located near the village of Zaatari in the Mafraq Governorate, about 60 km from the capital, Amman. The project consists of four phases that began in 2015 until the fourth phase, which is expected to be commercially operated this year. The nominal capacity of this project in its four phases is estimated at a total capacity of 12.1 megawatts.

At the end of the visit to the Samra station, the faculty members accompanying the students thanked the station’s management and engineers for their cooperation with Amman Arab University. The head of the Samra Electricity Generating Station’s administration, Engineer Yousef Balasiya, stressed the necessity of continuing permanent cooperation with the university, especially in the field of student training.
