Amman Arab University Creates College of Applied Medical Sciences, Including the Bioinformatics Program

Professor. Mohamad Al-Widyan, President of Amman Arab University, announced the approval of the Higher Education Council to establish the tenth college at the University, which is the College of Applied Medical Sciences, starting from the next academic year 2024/2025. This distinguished achievement reflects the implementation of the pioneering vision of the university and the implementation of its strategic plans,expansion with the aim of achieving more leadership and excellence and providing distinguished educational and research services.

On this occasion, Dr. Al-Widyan praised the support provided by the Board of Trustees at Amman Arab University, headed by Dr. Omar Mashhour Al-Jazi, stressing the importance of this support in implementing the university’s plans studied according to the needs of the local and international market, and based on field studies and coordination with the concerned authorities.

Dr. Al-Widyan added that the College of Applied Medical Sciences aims to develop knowledge and skills in the fields of medical sciences, in addition to achieving the comprehensive benefit of Jordanian society by providing distinguished study programs that enhance job opportunities in the field of health care, and contribute to providing qualified personnel to fill the shortage in applied medical professions. Locally and regionally.

In this regard, Professor. Rana Abu Huweij, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University, announced the approval of the Higher Education Council to create two new programs affiliated with the college: (the Bachelor’s Program in Bioinformatics) and (the Bachelor’s Program in Medical Laboratory Sciences).prof. Abu Haweij stressed the importance of this decision in Meeting the needs of the labor market and providing distinguished educational and training opportunities in the field of applied medical sciences, scientific research and innovation. Dr. Abu Huwaij pointed out that the bioinformatics specialty is the first of its kind in Jordan and is among the modern and advanced specializations in the world, as it has witnessed an increasing demand for it in recent years.

With regard to this major, it includes integrating advanced knowledge in evolutionary biology with genetics and biological systems, by taking advantage of modern technologies in computer science, scripting, and specialized courses in data management. It is expected that this specialization will contribute to a better understanding of complex biological phenomena and their analysis. It will also contribute to the development of new algorithms and the use of statistical techniques that help extract information from large sets of data. Through this contribution, the specialization will contribute effectively to the economic development and scientific progress of society.

It is noteworthy that these achievements reflect Amman Arab University’s commitment to leadership, excellence and development, and strengthen its position as a leading center for education and research locally and regionally, which confirms its vital role in achieving societal progress.

It is noteworthy that the decision also included the Council’s approval to establish a master’s program in mathematics at the university.
