Universities and Academic Formations Season
By: Prof. Dr. Younes Megdadi, Amman Arab University.
Universities will deposit their academic year 2021/2022 at the end of this month, regardless of its events and results. These are represented by department heads, passing by assistants and vice deans, deans and vice presidents, and these are often agreed upon within higher academic references to run the educational and learning process.
Everyone knows that those in charge of these formations are primarily the presidents of universities, as they are the authority authorized to place those who are selected within academic criteria based on competence, experience, good leadership, wisdom, good performance and others, in addition to developmental work programs with a strategic dimension to work according to and translate them into the reality of academic work for actual contribution. In improving and developing university outputs to maintain its academic and competitive position and reputation.
Despite everyone’s awareness of the importance of the corrective and developmental role of academic leaders and the warning of many followers, the selection process for academic leaders is still tainted by some challenges, which led to the difficulty of universities entering the battlefield of global competitiveness, not to mention the failures and their impact on the academic body, including poor selection, and compliance with personal and social pressures. The absence of transparency standards, the absence of developmental work programs for academic leaders, the lack of sufficient cumulative experience for some, and the absence of an orientalist strategic thought for the future of the educational process compared to universities and academic programs in regional and international universities.
Certainly that the presidents of our universities are scientific figures who are respected and valued, and they are all of a degree of eligibility and professional and moral responsibility, keen to select the appropriate academic leaders within qualitative and transparent academic standards to sort out the best, as well as their keenness to reject all attempts aimed at penetrating the academic body and not to enter the some of the unqualified here and there to protect the universities from any scratches and to avoid the consequences and cost of poor selection. Otherwise, you will find the universities themselves floating in the same square.
Hence, many observers of the academic community confirm that the success and distinction of universities depends on the quality and efficiency of academic leaders and their good selection, which requires a reconsideration of the selection criteria for academic leadership positions, and their future work programs, with care to stay away from agendas, interventions, and opportunistic, conciliatory and bypass attempts by passing them on Decision-makers and under various extraneous pretexts, focusing on those with extensive experience and future outlook, and benefiting from the experiences of opinion-makers who are able to offer an outstanding academic offering to develop all aspects of academic work. Based on the importance of this issue as it requires the universities decision-makers to pay attention in choosing distinguished leaders with their ideas and academic giving, so that universities can overcome the transformations and developments they are facing in order to continue the march with distinction and achievements added to their work process in accordance with their strategic plans and future aspirations, and for our universities to remain in the ranks of international universities.
