Amman Arab University celebrates the International Day of Handicaps
Under the sponsorship of the President of Amman Arab University, Prof. Mohamad Al-Widyan, Department of Special Education at the Faculty of Educational and Psychological Sciences celebrated the International Day of handicaps, which was held at the headquarters of the Amman Municipality employees Club on Monday, December 13, with the participation of University students, Faculty Members , institutions, centers and associations for disabled people, representatives of the Comprehensive Excellence Academy for Autism, International Center for People with Special Needs, Steady Step Center, Haja Rafiqa Center, Jafra Center, Jasmine Association, and the Director of the Department of Social and Psychological Affairs and Disabled people at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia ,His Excellency Mr. Ibrahim bin Mubarak Al-Nawaf. President of the University, Prof. Muhamad Al-Widyan stated in his speech that Jordan approved the agreement on the Rights of People with Disabilities in 2008 after its adoption, and confirmed to imply this category in sustainable development plans, stressing that it is our duty as an educational institution to focus on academic programs that qualify trained cadres to work with all these groups. Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Hiyam Al-Taj, indicated in her speech that the celebration of the International Day resulted from United Nations General Assembly Resolution 47/3, which is regarded to be a Universal Day on the third of December of each year. Al-Taj also added that Amman Arab University took a proactive step and developed a clear policy for persons with disabilities that included the proper integration of students and staff into University and practical life in line with their rights as people, and established procedures that would translate the policy into a practical way, which is what makes us proud of this achievement. The Greater Amman Municipality, represented by the GAM Staff Club, Mercy Corps, Al Hadaf Company, Zar Company, the Voluntary Change Hands Group and Raya Al Ezz Restaurant, supported the celebration, which included a series of Acts, theatrical performances, dances, and a special bazaar for the participating centers.
The ceremony concluded by honoring all participants and supporters by the sponsor of the ceremony.
