Faculty of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University (AAU) Organizes a Workshop on Smart Scientific Publishing for Master’s Students in Pharmacovigilance and Regulatory Affairs
As part of Amman Arab University’s commitment to developing advanced scientific research skills among postgraduate students and enhancing their ability to produce high-quality research with scientific, societal, and professional impact, the Faculty of Pharmacy organized a specialized practical workshop for Master’s students in Pharmacovigilance and Regulatory Affairs entitled: “Smart Scientific Publishing: From Research Idea to Indexed Academic Publication.”
The workshop was delivered by Professor Dr. Rana Abu Huweij, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy.
The workshop addressed the concept of smart scientific publishing and its importance in elevating the quality of scientific research. It highlighted mechanisms for transforming a research problem into impactful scientific outputs that contribute to the advancement of knowledge and the enhancement of drug safety in the fields of pharmacovigilance and regulatory affairs. The session also discussed criteria for selecting appropriate scientific journals for publication, including journal scope, impact factor, quality of peer review, publication requirements, and distinguishing between reputable scientific journals and merely indexed journals.
In addition, the workshop reviewed strategies for increasing the acceptance rate of scientific manuscripts and for transforming a research idea into a study with tangible scientific and applied dimensions. A practical component was included, during which scientific and methodological standards for preparing research papers were presented and applied to selected examples from Dr. Abu Huweij’s own research, serving as a model of rigorous scientific writing. The workshop emphasized the integrated structure of a research paper, evidence-based academic writing, and precise formulation of research components in accordance with internationally recognized standards.
Furthermore, participants received hands-on training in using specialized scientific databases to assess the credibility of journals and to select classified and accredited first-tier journals, as well as training on the steps involved in submitting a research paper to an indexed scientific journal, including electronic procedures and interaction with journal management systems.
The workshop witnessed notable engagement from program students, with scientific discussions and practical applications contributing to increased awareness of the importance of strategic planning for the scientific publishing pathway and to the development of research skills aligned with the requirements of contemporary scientific research and the academic and regulatory job markets.
This workshop is part of a series of scientific and training activities implemented by the Faculty of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University, reaffirming its commitment to preparing specialized research professionals with strong scientific competence and the ability to produce high-quality research with sustainable scientific and practical impact.
