
Collage of Information Technology at Amman Arab University (AAU) Participates in the Association of Arab Universities’ “Transforming the Future” Event
Under the patronage of His Excellency the Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities, Professor Amr Ezzat Salameh, Amman Arab University participated in the scientific event organized by the Association of Arab Universities entitled “Transforming the Future.” The event hosted Professor Omar Hatamleh, an international expert in artificial intelligence and Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, and was attended by a distinguished group of academics and experts from Jordan, in addition to more than 150 academics from Arab universities participating remotely, as well as representatives from 14 Arab countries.
Amman Arab University was represented by a delegation from the Collage of Information Technology, specifically the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. The delegation included Dr. Thamer Al-Sarayrah, Head of the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence; Dr. Hossam Almahasneh; Dr. Dr. Mais Haj Qasem; Dr. Dr. Ahmad Alajarmeh; and Dr. Layal Raja Al-Zaben.
During the event, Professor Hatamleh delivered a keynote address highlighting the profound and accelerating impact of artificial intelligence across various sectors, describing it as one of the most transformative technologies in human history. He emphasized its growing role in reshaping education, the economy, medicine, and the labor market, while also addressing the ethical considerations associated with AI development. He stressed the importance of utilizing artificial intelligence as a tool to support critical thinking and informed decision-making rather than as a substitute for human judgment.
Professor Hatamleh also discussed the future of jobs in the age of artificial intelligence, the anticipated economic and social challenges, and the role of AI and precision medicine in enhancing quality of life and increasing life expectancy. He underscored the necessity of international cooperation to establish ethical and legislative frameworks that ensure the responsible and sustainable use of these technologies.
The event concluded with an interactive dialogue session moderated by Professor Anas Rateb Al-Saoud, Executive Director of the Association of Arab Universities, which provided participants with an opportunity for direct engagement with the speaker. The session focused on practical approaches to leveraging artificial intelligence applications within Arab higher education institutions.
In this context, Dr. Rami Sahwil, Dean of the Collage of Information Technology at Amman Arab University, affirmed the Collage’s commitment to active participation in specialized scientific events and to keeping pace with the latest global developments in artificial intelligence and digital transformation. He noted that such engagement contributes to the continuous development of academic programs, enhances educational outcomes, and ensures alignment with the evolving needs of the labor market.
