
Architectural Engineering at "Amman Arab University" (AAU) Highlights the Aesthetic and Functional Values of Muqarnas in Islamic Architecture
As part of the College of Engineering's endeavor to embody the University's vision and academic mission in supporting scientific research and promoting cultural and intellectual movement, and under the directives of Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Widyan, University President, and the supervision and follow-up of Dr. Anwar Al-Assaf, Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Dr. Hanan Al-Jumaili from the Department of Architectural Engineering delivered a scientific lecture titled "Muqarnas and Their Role in Improving the Internal Environment." The lecture was held as part of a series of workshops, lectures, and cultural seminars within the annual activities organized by the Al-Sabounji Cultural Forum in Amman.
During her lecture, Dr. Al-Jumaili addressed the architectural concept of (almoqarsanat) and showcased their role in enhancing the quality of the internal environment through their impact on the structural and formal aspects of the space, in addition to being decorative elements of high artistic and aesthetic value, which are among the most prominent decorative and geometric elements in Islamic architecture. She also discussed their efficiency in addressing acoustic issues inside mosques and halls in general, through their ability to diffuse sound and reduce the phenomenon of echo.
The lecture was attended by an elite group of academics, engineers, writers, and intellectuals from the Forum's patrons. It was followed by a rich dialogue session to exchange views and ideas on the subject.
At the end of the event, the Al-Sabounji Cultural Forum honored Dr. Hanan Al-Jumaili in appreciation of her scientific contribution and her role in enriching the cultural and intellectual scene in Jordanian society.
